Brooklyn is an eclectic, charming, and engaging destination for traveling families throughout the year. Though due to a welcome return to sunshine, school breaks, and some choice events, it stands out in the spring. Looking at our favorite destinations and activities, we broke down five spring break ideas for families with kids of all ages going on vacation in Brooklyn.
Check Out The Brooklyn Children’s Museum
The Brooklyn Children’s Museum has been welcoming families to its Crown Heights location for over a century. Throughout the spring it will feature open play hours for kids and parents to explore immersive exhibits like World Brooklyn, Neighborhood Nature, and The NEST. They also regularly host film screenings with Lilo & Stitch and The Lorax kicking off the spring season.

See The Cherry Blossoms at Brooklyn Botanic
Every year, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden serves as a standout family destination with a wide range of gardens and plant exhibits. The spring is extra beautiful because it’s when the cherry blossoms bloom. You can find details on when the cherry blossoms start blooming on the Brooklyn Botanic Garden website here.

Get Lost in Prospect Park
Neighboring the garden, Prospect Park beckons family travelers on sunny spring days with its sprawling fields, miles upon miles of walking paths, and playgrounds. Throughout the spring there are fun, family-friendly events at the park like the Opening Day at the Carousel on March 30th, birdwatching outings, and Nikki Lindt’s Underground Sound Project — an interactive installation up until May 2023.

Head to Coney Island
Coney Island is as fun for kids, memorable for parents, and iconic as Brooklyn neighborhoods get. During your spring break visit, be sure to head out for a ride on the Cyclone, eat some fried dough, and then get a bite at a nearby Russian restaurant in Brighton Beach, or at the world-famous Spumoni Gardens Pizzeria, which is just a couple of miles away. The host of many great events, the Coney Island Boardwalk will be where the Brooklyn Half Marathon’s finish line is this May 20th.

Take in a Show
The spring season is like all others in Brooklyn in the sense that it will bring a number of great concerts and comedy shows, many of which are definitely family-friendly. Check out Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band at the Barclays Center on April 3rd, if your kids are on the older side then Rory Scovel’s comedy show The Last Tour will be worth seeing at The Bell House on April 22nd, and Meg Myers will be singing at Music Hall of Williamsburg on May 2nd.
