islander move to brooklyn

The New York Islanders (New York’s NHL hockey team) are moving to Brooklyn. For many years there was chatter that this Uniondale-based hockey team would move to Brooklyn, but many felt it wouldn’t happen. They announced in October of 2012that the team would move to the Barclay’s Center for the 2015-2016 NHL hockey season (cue the chant “Let’s Go Islander’s!) and we couldn’t be more excited. NU Hotel is one of the closest hotels to Barclay’s Center, just a few blocks away up Atlantic Avenue, so getting to Islanders games is easy and convenient.

Barclay’s Center is going to be a great hockey venue, the arena is very bright and the seating creates great viewing lines; there isn’t really a bad seat in the house. With the arrival of the Islanders in Brooklyn you’ll be sure to spot more of their blue and orange jerseys cropping up around Brooklyn. Islanders fans will undoubtedly appreciate the host of local Brooklyn eats available at Barclay’s stadium as well which include fan favorites like hot dogs from rival dog-peddlers Brooklyn Bangers & Dogs and Nathan’s, to Mexican food from Brooklyn Based Calexico, don’t forget to save room for dessert and grab a slice of cheesecake from the Barclay’s Center outpost of the world famous Junior’s.
Looking to meet up with your friend’s pre-Islanders game? Choose your preferred sports bar near NU Hotel. Check out Okeefes Bar and Grill (62 Court St.) for an authentic local sports bar experience with outstanding buffalo wings to boot. Ceol Pub (191 Smith Street) is a laidback Irish pub, which also hosts karaoke nights if you feel the need to belt out your favorite tune before heading to the Barclay’s center to cheer on the Islanders. Mullhollands Bar (312 Grand St.) has tons of TVs AND a fireplace (which is a rare find in a sports bar), perfect for gathering your friends to celebrate the Islanders move to Brooklyn!
