New York City Fleet Week

May 21 - 27

Fleet WeekNYC Fleet Week is legendary. For those not in the know Fleet Week is a weeklong celebration that honors the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. During this week, marines and sailors come to New York from near and far. This year’s Fleet Week takes place from May 21-27. The festivities include the opportunity to tour visiting ships, see the parade of ships in the harbor, and watch fun and friendly competitions between the sailors and marines as well as a commemorative Memorial Day ceremony. We guarantee you’ll literally brush soldiers with a serviceman, they’re everywhere during this time.

NYC isn’t the only city to host a fleet week; check out the ongoing fleet weeks occurring in other cities like San Francisco and Fort Lauderdale. Historically the first fleet week was celebrated in 1935 and the annual tradition began in NYC in 1984. Last year’s fleet week in NYC didn’t take place due to the government sequester of 2013. An estimated 1,500 soldiers will participate in this year’s festivities.
